This course will form the foundation for high school English classes through its engagement with reading, writing, and analysis. Students will learn to effectively write paragraphs that respond to argumentative, narrative, informative, and persuasive prompts. Students will also learn and apply literary elements to nonfiction and fiction stories (i.e. short stories, articles, and novels Dance Hall of the Dead, and Farewell to Manzanar). Students will also be required to read, analyze and produce speeches that incorporate rhetorical elements.
